Service Fee
A fee charged to guests by booking platforms on top of the listed rental price. Airbnb's guest service fee is typically 14-16% of the booking subtotal. Service fees increase the total cost guests pay and can make direct booking significantly cheaper for guests, which is a key selling point for hosts building a direct booking channel.
Example
A guest sees a $200/night listing on Airbnb but pays $232/night after the 16% service fee. The same property on the host's direct booking site is $210/night with no service fee — cheaper for the guest and more profitable for the host.
